Smirnoff Trolls Donald Trump’s ‘Ties to Russia’ in New Ad

The vodka brand pokes fun at the Trump administration’s reluctance to discuss its links to the country

Smirnoff’s own ties to Russia date back more than 150 years.

Last week, former FBI Director James Comey testified that Donald Trump asked him to pledge personal loyalty and drop the investigation into Michael Flynn, Trump’s national security adviser, over his ties to Russia. The testimony inspired watch parties (with one Missouri café serving White Russians with a Cheeto garnish during its Comey party) and has now inspired popular vodka brand Smirnoff to join in on the political conversation with its new campaign.

Smirnoff, which was founded in Russia, mocks Trump and his numerous scandals involving the country in ads that have appeared in bus stops and subway stations.

One Twitter user, Kate Kosturski, tweeted a photo of the ad, which has since gone viral.

That's a good burn there, Smirnoff. pic.twitter.com/6fJ4Wfl7Xe

“Made in America,” the ad reads. “But we’d be happy to talk about our ties to Russia under oath.”

The ad was created with the vodka brand’s creative agency 72andSunny, Adweek reported.
